Mr Justice Fancourt was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1987. Practising from Falcon Chambers, he specialised in property, contract and valuation disputes. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2003. In 2009 he became a Recorder (Crime) and was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013. He was Chair of the Chancery Bar Association from 2012 to 2014 and was then appointed a High Court Judge assigned to the Chancery Division in 2017. He was President of the Lands Chamber of the Upper Tribunal from 2019 to 2022. He was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster in 2021, and served as Supervising Judge of the Business and Property Courts in the North and North-East from 2021 to 2025. He is now Chair of the High Court Judges' Association. He is authorised to hear cases in the Patents Court and in the Financial List.
