Expert referral service- One of the primary functions of the EWI is to be a resource for expert witnesses who are seeking to develop their practice. The EWI website and our member databases provide solicitors seeking experts in your specialty with your name and contact details. All members receive a full website entry in the online EWI Find an Expert Directory. Entries can include a personal profile, full contact details and a photograph
EWI Logo - EWI members (excluding Provisional, Retired and Associate Members) are entitled to use the designated logo to indicate that they have met the technical, legal and quality standard for criteria for EWI membership. Individual members and Fellows are also entitled to use the EWI post-nominals e.g. MEWI (Member of EWI), FEWI (Fellow of EWI).
Professional Indemnity Insurance - EWI members have access to Professional Indemnity Insurance with Horner Blakey Insurance Brokers, which provides favourable rates on a policy designed specifically for expert witnesses.
Helpline - EWI offers free and confidential use of the EWI Helpline, offering support and advice to expert witness members across disciplines.
Website - Up-to-the-minute access to all the important expert witness documents including: An 'Example Form of an Expert's Report', 'Terms and conditions of Engagement', current legislation and much more. The EWI website also provides members with links to other useful website and up-to-date information on all our events.
Events, Training and Education - There is an important role for the EWI to play in ensuring that the experts, who are recognised by the court under the relevant rules, are competent and fully cognisant of their responsibilities. The EWI runs courses and seminars throughout the year on topical issues. Workshops and events with other leading organisations are held throughout the year. Members enjoy up to a third off all events.
Mentoring for Provisional Members - All EWI Provisional members can select a mentor from amongst the Fellows of the Institute to assist them in achieving full membership. Mentors can provide advice on report writing, appearing in court and managing an expert witness practice.
EWI Publications - The EWI Newsletter is issued regularly free of charge to all members. The newsletter contains articles of interest designed to ensure that members have access to the most up-to-date information.
Data Destruction Services - EWI has negotiated preferential member rates with Shredding 4 Business Group. This ensures that confidential information can be disposed of in a secure manner that complies with data protection regulations.
Meeting Room Hire - The EWI meeting room in Temple Chambers is a professional meeting space available to EWI members. Ideally situated within each reach of Blackfriars Station, City Thameslink and Temple Stations, the room is available to hire at very attractive rates for members. It can accommodate up to 12 people board room set up and includes WiFi.
Tax Relief - The EWI is one of the HMRC approved professional bodies under Section 344 of the Income Tax (Earnings & Pensions) Act 2003. If you are a UK tax payer and pay your own membership fees, you may be entitled to claim tax back on your subscription fee.
Oxford University Press - Members receive a 20% discount on all academic law texts.
