It is essential that all expert witnesses understand the legal framework and how their role as an expert witness fits into the Scottish legal system, both historically and contextually.

Two Part webinar: 29th November and 6th December 2023: 18.30 - 20.30

This course is recommended for:

  • Those who are new to expert witness work
  • Experienced experts who want to learn about or refresh their knowledge of the Scottish legal system

Course outline:

  • The expert witness’ duty to the court
  • Importance of report compliance - the different rules that apply and why
  • What to expect if you end up having to appear in court
  • Court terminology and the unique language of the judicial system translated 
  • Anatomy of court law and the different court systems
  • The UK Constitution and a history of the Scottish Legal System
  • Key court cases and reforms relevant to expert witnesses
  • Sources of law
  • The doctrine of binding precedent
  • The legal profession under the microscope

  • Understand key features of the English/UK constitution and constitutional concepts

Training and Events - Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations received more than 50 business days prior to the event – A full refund will be given.
  • Cancellations received 26 -50 business days prior to the event – A 75% refund will be given.
  • Cancellations received 16-25 business days prior to the event – A 50% refund will be given.
  • Cancellations received less than 15 business days prior to the event – no refund will be given.

Please note, any delegates who do not attend on the day will not receive a refund.  Access to the event will be denied if payment in advance has not been made.

The EWI reserve the right to cancel any event with a minimum of 3 business days’ notice and will provide a full refund to delegates.
