Pain presentations in personal injury cases: psychological and medical factors.

Our second workshop once again brings together experts from the psychology and medical worlds with a common interest – to explore issues related to pain within the medico legal context. Speakers will meet as a panel at the end of the day to answer questions from the delegates.
This workshop will be of interest to medical experts from various backgrounds, solicitors, barristers, and case managers.

Hannah Bashforth

Dr Hannah Bashforth has worked as a Clinical Psychologist specialising in medical psychology for 15 years in general medical (across specialities) psychology departments and intensive care units.

She is currently based within one of the UKs leading NHS tertiary pain management services (Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust). Dr Bashforth also holds a post at the University of Liverpool as a Senior Clinical Tutor on the Doctoral Training Course for Clinical Psychology.

Dr Bashforth has positions at National level for the British Pain Society and is on the scientific committee for the Pain Relief Foundation, Liverpool and is regularly invited to speak and present at events; recently including the British Symposium on Diabetic Neuropathy, The British Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting and training events for the Expert Witness Institute (EWI).

Dr Bashforth has been working in private practice since 2009 and commenced medicolegal work in 2012. She completes both complex personal injury and medical negligence claims for claimant and defence (60:40) in areas including; differential diagnosis in chronic pain cases, loss of limb/amputation, spinal cord injury, impact of delay to diagnosis (cancer, diabetes, detached retina) and obstetric and gynaecology complications.

Mark Alexander-Williams

Dr Mark Alexander-Williams is a consultant in pain management and an expert witness instructed by claimants and defendants.

Mark has extensive experience in assessing and preparing reports associated with:
- Pain syndromes
- Complex regional pain
- Spinal pain
- Neuropathic pain
- Headaches

Starting his training at The London Hospital, Mark has over 21 years’ experience and currently works at Springfield Hospital in Essex and is an honourary lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University. Mark specialises in pain management, back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal pain and pelvic pain.

Dr Wael Agur
Dr Wael Agur is a urogynaecologist expert witness with Bond Solon training who works on clinical negligence and product liability cases in relation to transvaginal implants (mesh and graft) for incontinence and prolapse. He also provides clinical negligence reports in general obstetrics and gynaecology.

Wael is currently head of the urogynaecology service in NHS Ayrshire & Arran, West of Scotland, a research fellow with NHS Research Scotland and an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Dr Agur is a doubly qualified sub-specialist in urogynaecology as well as a general gynaecologist and obstetrician, with a clinical caseload that includes both elective and emergency work.

  • Cancellations received 61 days + prior to the event – A full refund will be given
  • Cancellations received 31-60 days prior to the event – A 75% refund will be given
  • Cancellations received 15-30 days prior to the event – A 50% refund will be given
  • Cancellations received 0-14 days prior to the event – No refund will be given

Please note, any delegates who do not attend on the day will not receive a refund.

Access to the event will be denied if payment in advance has not been made.

The EWI reserve the right to cancel any event with a minimum of 3 days notice and will provide a full refund to delegates.
