Avoiding the “Pinkus trap” – from law to practice

Webinar

30 Jun 2021

6:00PM - 7:30PM

Issues for Expert Witnesses & Mentors. This webinar is essential for expert witnesses who are developing their legal practice and skills, and also for those who supervise or mentor expert witnesses.
In the case of Pinkus v Direct Line, an expert witness was highly criticised when it came to light, at the point of the Experts’ Discussion, she had received “peer supervision” and advice that influenced her opinion in respect of the case on which she was opining as a CPR35 compliant “impartial and independent” witness. The clear message from Cotter J was that this must not happen.

In this session William Audland KC, Counsel for the defendant in the Pinkus case, will take delegates through the case itself and explain the relevant legal pitfalls, with reference to CPR35 and other aspects of law relating to expert witness evidence.

Alison Somek, Expert Witness, and CEO of Somek & Associates, a Corporate Partner of the EWI will discuss how to develop the skills to be a truly independent expert witness, and how to use supervision or mentoring, whilst ensuring you do not “fall into the trap”.

CPD: 1.5 Hrs
