Benefits of Membership

Expert Referral Service
One of the primary functions of the EWI is to source expert witness work for our fully vetted EWI members. Through appearing on the EWI website as well as our member databases your name and contact details will be frequently provided to solicitors seeking experts with your specialism. There is also the option for members to advertise their services on the EWI website. The EWI website’s hit rate continues to grow and many visitors to the site are solicitors looking to instruct experts. All members receive a basic listing and for an extra £50 members can avail of a full enhanced listing complete with CV and photograph.

EWI Logo
EWI members (excluding Provisional Members) are entitled to use the designated logo to indicate that they have met the technical, legal and quality standards for criteria for EWI membership. Full members are also entitled to use the EWI post-nominals e.g. MEWI (Member of EWI), FEWI (Fellow of EWI)

The EWI make representations, on behalf of experts, to the Government and to affiliated professional bodies and associations wherever appropriate.

Free and unlimited use of the EWI Helpline, offering support and advice to expert witness members.

Up-to-the-minute access to all the important expert witness documents, including: An `Example Form of Expert’s Report’, ‘Terms and Conditions of Engagement’, current legislation and much more. The EWI website also provides members with links to other useful websites and up to date information on all our events.


Events, Training and Education
There is an important role for the EWI to play in ensuring that the experts, who are recognised by the court under the relevant rules, are competent and fully cognisant of their responsibilities. The EWI runs courses and seminars throughout the year on topical issues. Joint conferences with other leading organisations are held regularly. Mentoring for Provisional Members
All EWI Provisional members can select a Mentor from amongst the Fellows of the Institute to assist them in achieving full membership.  Mentors can provide advice on report writing, appearing in court and managing an expert witness practice.

EWI Publications
The EWI Newsletter is issued regularly free of charge to all members. The newsletter contains articles of interest designed to ensure that members have access to the most up-to-date information.

Professional Indemnity Insurance
EWI members have access to Professional Indemnity Insurance which provides favourable rates with Horner Blakey Insurance Brokers. Information on their website.

Meeting Room Hire
Ideally situated within each reach of Blackfriars Station, City Thameslink and Temple Stations, the EWI meeting room in Temple Chambers is a highly professional space suitable for a variety of purposes.  The room is available to hire at very attractive rates for members on weekdays and can be accommodate up to 12 people board room set up.  For more information contact the EWI office on 020 7936 2213
