The courts have delivered a number of significant decisions over the last twelve months concerning experts and expert evidence. In this lecture Dr Sorabji considers these case law developments, and provides particular guidance on:

•     expert witnesses and fact-finding
•     the court’s approach to experts who go beyond their proper role
•     experts and case management - when is it appropriate to appoint an expert
•     experts and conflicts of interest

This seminar will be delivered by Dr John Sorabji

Dr. Sorabji is the Principal Legal Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice and Master of the Rolls.

In addition to his work for the Lord Chief Justice and Master of the Rolls he is a Senior Fellow at University College London’s Judicial Institute, where he lectures on Principles of Civil Justice and on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is also a visiting professor at  the University of Paris-II, where he lectures on the English civil justice system.

He is also an assistant editor of the International Journal of Procedural Law, a contributor to the White Book and editor of Civil Procedure News. He is the author of English Civil Justice after Woolf and Jackson and a contributor to Foskett on Compromise.
