Alexander Mackay B Arch, RIBA, MEWI


Sandy Mackay is a chartered architect and is an associate of the Building Research Establishment (BRE). He has been involved in the investigation and rectification of building defects since 1980 and has been acting as an expert witness since 1982. He has given evidence in Court and at ADR and similar hearings. He has also worked as a single joint expert on small disputes, so understands the varied demands upon experts.
He was on the Advisory Editorial Board for the ICE Journal of Forensic Engineering and currently represents the EWI at the QSSG meetings of the Forensic Science Regulator.
He also represented EWI in the EGLE project which considered the role of experts in the different European Courts and established a need for competent experts to be certified and listed so that the justice system in each country has ready access to sound expert opinion.
He has been working with other members of the EWI Board on the introduction of independent certification of experts into the UK and will explain the importance of this to the conference.
